This assignment is a formal essay, so you should follow the forms of good writing, which include no slang or text-speak; good grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and good organization. Also, the paper should have a thesis statement, supporting points throughout (plenty of detail and specifics), and a conclusion.

Paper Guidelines

Imagine your future self. You have already graduated from the university and may be working in your dream job. The road getting here wasn’t always easy, but you persevered, reached your academic goal, and are on the road to creating the life you want to achieve.

Your audience for this paper is the person you are right now. The person who has overcome obstacles and has many successes Think back to your Week 1 paper…. (in which you examine what challenges you have faced thus far in regard to attending college, this is what week one was about) but is facing a new challenge, college. You will position this paper in the future and address your current self. Think of it as your future self writing to your current self. Describe the path you visualize your future self taking to achieve those future goals. This path can focus on your educational plan, life plan, or a combination of both (See the educational plan and life plan guidelines below for information on what must be included in the paper.).

Begin by brainstorming on what you have identified as your strengths, challenges, and effective strategies to help in moving toward goal achievement.

Some questions to consider:

  • What academic goals have you set for yourself?
  • What life goals have you set for yourself?
  • What actions do you need to take to achieve each of your goals?
  • What are some challenges you might face in reaching your goals?
  • How will you address these challenges?
  • What strengths can you access to help you reach your goals?

At least one of the sources from your Week 3 research must be incorporated into this paper. Consider how your Week 3 research, which focuses on something you identify as wanting to learn more about in order to increase your knowledge on a specific topic, might be helpful when discussing academic goals, life goals, or strategies to use in addressing academic or life challenges.

Educational Plan and Life Plan

Your essay will focus on at least one of the following.

Educational Planning: Create a tentative undergraduate plan that includes courses in general education as well as your intended academic major. You will want to contact your academic advisor if needed to begin discussing your course options as you move through your program of study for general education and major area classes. If you will minor in a subject, you may include specifics on these courses as well.

AND/OR

Life Planning: Develop a life plan that discusses your goals involving personal growth and includes your economic, emotional, ethical, physical, and/or spiritual well-being (must include at least three of these). What actions can you take to help create and support the self you want to be?

Funds of Knowledge Observation & Reflection

The purpose of this assignment is to:

  • provide practice in observing and gathering data
  • encourage noticing of and reflection on Funds of Knowledge

You will observe a lesson in your EFE, take notes, and write a reflection of no more than one page (12 point font, double spaced, 1” margins).

The first paragraph of the reflection should describe the context of the observation (e.g., grade level, lesson content) and how you gathered data (see list below for guidance).

The second paragraph should describe how you saw the teacher draw on students’ Funds of Knowledge (see list below). If the lesson did not draw on Funds of Knowledge, offer examples of what could have been added to do so.
